Workaround Description  Ct wrote a script named "sybase_monitoring_proxy_storedprocs.sql" http://www-panther.sybase.com/remote/cases/11761000s/11761087/pseinfo-11/Repro/sp_proxy_role_enable Basically this script creates a proxy_sa_role with a password, then they wrapped the escalation in the sp_proxy_role_enable stored procedure. The later has its text hidden and all rights revoked. Ct added a condition to abort if the rights were modified. There is also a condition to bypass the escalation if the sa_role is already held. The sp_proxy_role_disable is simply the reverse and has the same attributes and logic. For each "sa_role" dependant stored procedure, ct just created a "sp_proxy_xyz" wrapper that calls sp_proxy_role_enable and if that succeeds the sp_xyz is called with the usual parameters that were passed to sp_proxy_xyz and then calls sp_proxy_role_disable. They removed the RPC stuff because in their scope it might not be relevant... And, they removed the "double check" of the "secret key" to avoid calling directly the sp_proxy_role_enable by revoking the EXECUTE right from ALL. Seems to be equivalent and a lot simpler. Besides, it did not seem so secure. Side effect of the EXECUTE right, it is still callable and executable through the sp_proxy_xyz. They also revoked the public from all sp_proxy_xyz and granted sa_role and mon_role. They created a default generic user testmon and assigned roles to it.
